Abu Dhabi’s ALTÉRRA partners with FinDev Canada to mobilise capital for climate investment in growth markets

ALTÉRRA, a climate-focused investment manager headquartered in Abu Dhabi, and FinDev Canada, Canada’s development finance institution, have announced a strategic partnership, signed on the sidelines of the Canada Investment Summit, to mobilise capital at scale for climate investment across emerging and developing markets.

The collaboration reflects a shared ambition to accelerate the global climate transition and expand climate investments in underserved markets through innovative and scalable financing solutions. Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), ALTÉRRA and FinDev Canada will explore potential collaboration across co-financings and investments, funds, platforms and blended finance structures that support decarbonisation and climate-resilience in emerging markets.

By combining ALTERRA’s climate investment experience with FinDev Canada’s development finance experience, the partnership aims to identify and scale potential investment opportunities that deliver measurable climate impact while working to mobilise institutional and catalytic investors at greater scale.

ALTÉRRA and FinDev Canada will focus on opportunities across Latin America, Southeast Asia and Africa, with an emphasis on supporting climate investments. Areas of interest span clean energy, grids and storage, sustainable transport, water, resilient infrastructure and climate-smart agriculture.

The partnership will also explore how catalytic and commercial capital can be combined to unlock new investment opportunities and create scalable models that can be replicated across markets. ALTÉRRA was established to transform how and where the world invests in climate solutions, delivering climate impact and commercial returns across developed and emerging markets.

In growth markets, it advances this mandate through co-investments and pioneered first-of-their-kind strategies with Brookfield and TPG, deploying catalytic capital to enable broader institutional participation. According to ALTÉRRA’s latest Impact Report, 37 per cent of climate investment opportunities are already considered investable or near-investable, underscoring the scale of the opportunity that exists today. Bridging the remaining investment gap requires strong partnerships, innovative financing, and a shared commitment to mobilising private capital at scale.
