ADM NEWS | United Arab Emirates University ranks 1st in UAE for US utility patents granted in 2025 The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has been ranked first in the UAE and 67th globally for granted US utility patents in 2025 according to the prestigious annual ranking announced by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
This milestone coincides with the UAEU’s Golden Jubilee and reflects its continued commitment to innovation and research excellence. UAEU is the only university in the UAE featured among the Top 100 Universities Worldwide list, having previously ranked 90th globally in 2021, marking notable progress in recent years.
UAEU shared 67th place globally with ETH Zurich, one of the world’s leading institutions in science and technology. The UAEU’s total number of granted patents has surpassed 365, with the majority issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
This milestone reflects the University’s sustained commitment to translating research into practical solutions that support economic growth and technological advancement. UAEU’s patents span a wide range of academic disciplines and align closely with the UAE’s national priorities, including renewable and sustainable energy; medical and health sciences; space science and technology; artificial intelligence; advanced materials and material science and manufacturing.
The majority of the patents granted in 2025 were developed by faculty members and researchers from the College of Engineering, highlighting the college’s leadership in applied research and technology commercialisation. This achievement during UAEU’s Golden Jubilee reflects five decades of academic and research progress, and global engagement with the university continuing to drive scientific discovery and technological advancement in support of sustainable national development.
