The Souk Qaryat al Beri and the Shangri-La Hotel are the inescapable spots of the nightlife in Abu Dhabi: a sumptuous decor, bars, nightclubs and restaurants, a channel with electric boats as in Venice, with in the background the majestic Sheikh Zayed mosque, separated by an a sea channel.
Presentation of the complex
The Souk Qaryat al beri and The Hotel Shangri-La constitute a whole luxurious hotel with an architecture of Moroccan inspiration. The Shangri-La, one of the best hotels in Abu Dhabi, extends on a wide area. The neighborhood is named Between the bridges. Three bridges link the mainland to the island of Abu Dhabi: The Mussafah Bridge, the most in the south, the Maqta Bridge at the center, and more to the north, the elegant Sheikh Zayed Bridge, in a shape of a wave, beautifully illuminated by night.
Many small marinas are scattered along the resort and the channel is very frequented by jet skis and smallboats. Beyond of the channel you can admire the Mosque and the hotel the Ritz (The Ritz Carlton) located on the opposite side of the channel. the conceals, On the part located to the south there is the main swimming pool of the Shangri La hotel, and we recommend you to stop by at sunset and have a drink.

Walk on the channel as in Venice
To access the channel since the entry of the main building of Shangri-La, at the level of the valet parking and just before returning in the hall, turn right and walk under the arcades. At the end of a 30 meters passage, turn right and take the elevator to go down. You will reach at a small pier.
A few electric boats with a capacity of 6 to 8 people make the visit for free. It may be necessary to wait five or ten minutes. Ask the gondolier to take you up the souk in doing the grand tour, so can admire the channel until the end. You can use the same service to return, or walk along the canal (to retrieve the path you must exit the souk on the street side, turn right and go along the building under the arcades, then turn to the right.

Discove the Shangri La hotel
Like all hotels of the United Arab Emirates, you can go in the public areas without being a customer. Then do not hesitate: take the entry of honor of the hotel and give your rental car to the valet parking.
Hostesses open doors with a charming smile of welcome, a little later dates and a cup of coffee local are proposed. Take a moment on the sofas in the lounge or take a drink in the bar, or go to the terrace. At the time of the addition, do not forget to stamp your valet parking receipt to benefit from the free service.

Continue the visit by descending the stairs. A few handcrafted products are sold on the stairs . At the bottom there is the buffet restaurant Sofra. Walk through table and exit the building to discover the main swimming pool with the Great Mosque in the background. It is a pleasant place for a drink. Continue the ride by taking the path on the left (where the hotel is behind you). Follow the small beach (another friendly place for a intimate drink in the evening), then you will arrive in the district of the luxury villas, that can be book yearly or for a few nights. Turn right and reach the building with the tower: this is the Pearl & Caviar. On the ground floor a gourmet restaurant, and the first floor a lounge in full air where can be served snacks. The view is magnificent and it is our number 1 recommendation for a drink outside.
There are other high class restaurants in the Shangri La: French cuisine at the restaurant Water Edge, Asian cuisine at the restaurant Hoi An or Shang Palace Restaurant (Chinese). If you eat in the establishment and have used the valet parking, do not forget to stamp the ticket for valet parking at the time you pay the bill to get free service. If you park at the Souk Qaryat al Beri, stamp your ticket in the Souk, if you park at the hotel, stamp the ticket in the hotel.

The Souk Qaryat al Beri
The Souk Qaryat al Beri has a very nice range of stores and restaurants. A few shops of antiques, art and perfumes, a Starbucks and a small supermarket.
Restaurants are located on two levels. These include those with terrace and view: the Meet & Co (steaks and hamburgers), the indian restaurant Ushna, sushis at the Japanese restaurant Sho Cho (style lounge with a lot of music at the end of the evening), the Asian cuisine of the Noodle House (very nice and quiet terrace, and very affordable prices compared to other restaurants).
Restaurants Sho Cho, Left Bank and Eight are trendy bars. Eight turns into a nightclub from 11pm.
It is possible to park in the parking area on the other side of the street, or to use the valet parking (free if the ticket is stamped by an establishment of the souk).
Good to know before booking at the Shangri-La Hotel Abu Dhabi
Before booking the Shangri-La Abu Dhabi, you need to know what type of accommodation you are looking for, because the resort offers several options.
The first option is The Shangri-La Hotel, with room or suites. The second option is the Appart-hotel with Shangri-La Residence. The third option is to rent a villa in the complex (contact the hotel directly).Odyfolio recommends Shangri-La area.
The other hotels in the area
At the same locatin, The Traders Hotel Qaryat al Beri Abu Dhabi by Shangri-La is a more affordable alternative that the Shangri-La, with few options for dinner. A little further to the north The Fairmont is a very nice hotel with lot of restaurants..
On the other side of the shore, The Ritz-Carlton is another luxurious hotel but less busy than Shangri La, with a significant number of restaurants.
The Officers Club Hotel, isolated on the other side of the motorway, attempts to maintain its rank next to the new hotel complexes of the city.
Next to the Carrefour supermarket, The Capital Hilton Grand (formerly Rocco Forte) is a very modern hotel (much more modern than the other Hilton of Abu Dhabi) with bars and peaceful restaurants. It is a very good quality-price ratio for staying.
A little further on the road to Dubai, The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa Hotel is a beautiful five stars with several restaurants and bars. We particularly appreciate the Lemon and Lime Lounge for cozy atmosphere, which serves on comfortable sofas the food from any restaurant of the hotel: a good choice if not everybody wants to eat the same kind of food!
Even further, but more difficult to access, The Al Raha Beach Hotel, with large swimming pool and spa.
