Dolce&Gabbana x ADMAF Design Award 2023 Announced

Board your military bi-plane and scale 63 metres at a spectacular 51-degree incline. Feel your pulse race as you fly through the world’s highest rollercoaster loop and hit speeds of up to 120km/h.

Inspired by the legendary ‘ace of aces’ aviator, Count Baracca. Scale 63m at a spectacular 51-degree incline, hit 120km/h, and fly through the world’s highest rollercoaster loop.

After the great success of “Formula Rossa”, the World’s fastest Roller Coaster which opened in 2010, Ferrari World wanted once again to introduce a record breaking ride. But this time, they were looking for a coaster themed and designed around the history of the famous Ferrari brand. Count Francesco Baracca’s mother is actually behind the story of Ferrari’s logo. The Count was a famous Italian “Flying Ace” aviator, who used to paint the “horse” on his bi-plane to bring him luck. Enzo Ferrari, a famous car racer at the time, followed the suggestion of Baracca’s mother and also put the emblem on his car. This is how Ferrari’s logo was created.

End of February 2016, the Middle East’s prime theme park has opened “Flying Aces”, a one-of-a-kind Wing Coaster. The layout of this roller coaster has been designed so that the train reproduces the movement and figures of a bi-plane. To emphasize the experience, the front of the train has been designed like the front of a small airplane used for acrobatic figures, and the particular seating arrangement (4 passengers per row, whereas the outer 2 seats are aside of the track) enhances the flying sensation.

Ferrari World breaks a number of records, operating now the coaster with the steepest (51° angle) and fastest (up to 29 km/h) cable lift, and the tallest non-inverted loop with a height of 52 m.

The 1500m long ride begins with this amazing high speed lift, which conveys the 28 passenger trains to the top of the coaster at 63 meters in just a few seconds. Once at the top, the train is diving into a pit reaching its top speed of 120 km/h, to immediately continue its run through the impressive 52 m high non-inverted loop. The gravity run is followed by exciting figures such as extreme overbanked curves, airtime hills (10 zero gravity airtime moments in total), and high speed humps. The riders experience a maximum vertical acceleration of 4.8G. The thrilling journey finishes with a corkscrew and an airtime S-hump before the train enters the smooth eddy current brakes. The overall ride time is around 2.5 minutes.
