While limited agriculture in the region posed a challenge in terms of feedstock availability, Yousif found inspiration during his research trips to Europe, where regulatory requirements mandated the use of 10% biodiesel blends in vehicles.
Lootah Biofuels: Making a Significant Impact on Reducing Carbon Emissions
Today, Lootah Biofuels is the UAE’s largest collector of Used Cooking Oil, gathering over 160,000 litres of UCO per month from prominent restaurants in the region. With an annual production capacity of 60 million litres of biofuel, the company is making a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions.

Biofuels: A Promising Solution to Combat Climate Change
Yousif explains that the advantages of biofuels, especially in terms of carbon emissions reduction, are substantial. Yousif Lootah explained that by using biofuel, vehicles can achieve more than 50% lower CO2 emissions compared to electric vehicles if the average emissions of electricity production in Europe are considered.
