About Circle of Hope
Circle of Hope was founded by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan as the organization which provides oversight for her non-profit social enterprises. Circle of Hope is comprised of “Wanna Read?”, Beacon of Hope UAE and the Women’s Empowerment and Equality Board.
Circle of Hope aims to use education as a vessel to introduce women and children to opportunities beyond their circumstances. Regardless of whether a child is in hospital, or in a refugee camp, providing the tools of education allows the mind to envisage unexpected new possibilities.
Through our commitment to the empowerment of women, we work to help women build professional support networks, using cross-industry mentor-ships and friendships as a means to develop skills, confidence and broaden women’s professional perspective.
Beacon of Hope, which takes solar-light kits to children in impoverished or war-torn areas, has distributed 10,000 beacons-in-a-box across 10 countries in three continents since the initiative began in 2016. More than 25 partners and contributors to the programme include the United Nations, the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the UAE Ministry of Youth, the Emirates Foundation and the Emirates Red Crescent.
Wanna Read? helps hospitalized children of all ages through the healing and rehabilitation process, encouraging them to enjoy books. More than 8,500 books and 20 trolleys have been donated to hospitals across the UAE.
With a focus on the unity of youth, we promote education, tolerance, empathy, and encourage a life-long habit of volunteerism and giving. Whilst striving to make a positive impact on youth in hospitals by promoting healing through reading, or those living in impoverished regions, orphanages, or those who are displaced due to war or natural disaster, through the delivery of innovative and sustainable learning tools, such as our beacon-in-a-box solar light kits, we can introduce children to a future previously unimagined.
